Assist Rate (AST%)

The percentage of teammate field goals a player assisted while on the floor. A 35% assist rate means the player created over a third of their teammates' made baskets.

Like a quarterback's completion rate depending on receiver quality — the passer creates opportunities, but someone has to finish the play.

Why it matters

High assist-rate players are more affected by teammate quality and availability — their assist props are directly tied to who else is on the court.

How DMP uses this

DMP includes assist rate in archetype classification (point-creator archetypes have AST% >= 35%), and factors it into redistribution when teammates are injured.

Common mistake

Ignoring that a point guard's assist numbers depend heavily on teammates — if the team's best shooters are out, assists typically drop even if the guard plays the same.
