Chalk
The favorite in a betting market. "Playing the chalk" means betting favorites. Heavy chalk means a large favorite, typically -200 or higher.
Like buying a brand-name product: the quality might be real, but you're often paying a premium for the name alone.
Why it matters
Understanding chalk helps you recognize when the market is pricing a favorite accurately vs. when public bias has inflated the price.
How DMP uses this
DMP's implied probability calculations show the fair chance behind the chalk price, so you can tell when a favorite is over- or under-priced.
Common mistake
Assuming chalk is always safe because the team is better — the odds already account for that. Chalk at bad odds is a losing strategy.
