Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%)
Field goal percentage adjusted for three-pointers being worth more. Formula: (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) / FGA. A player making 40% of their threes has the same eFG% as one making 60% of their twos.
Like measuring a salesperson by revenue generated per call, not just calls made — quality of output matters more than raw percentage.
Why it matters
It reveals whether a player's shot selection is actually producing points efficiently, which affects scoring volume and prop projections.
How DMP uses this
DMP uses eFG% as one input in player evaluation, helping distinguish between high-volume shooters who are actually efficient and those who are just taking a lot of shots.
Common mistake
Evaluating shooters by raw FG% alone — this penalizes three-point shooters who are actually generating more points per shot attempt.
