Fade
To bet against someone or something. "Fading the public" means betting the opposite side of where the majority of casual bettors are wagering.
Like buying a stock that everyone is panic-selling: contrarian moves work when the crowd has overreacted, not every time.
Why it matters
Fading the public is a legitimate strategy because public money often inflates lines on popular teams, creating value on the other side.
How DMP uses this
DMP's line movement data can reveal when a line has moved due to public money vs. sharp money, helping you decide when fading is justified.
Common mistake
Blindly fading the public on every game — public money is only exploitable when it pushes a line past fair value.
