Hard Hit Rate

The percentage of batted balls with an exit velocity of 95 mph or higher. League average is around 35-37%.

Like measuring how hard a soccer player kicks the ball, not just whether it goes in the net.

Why it matters

Hard hit rate separates quality contact from weak grounders. It is a more stable predictor than batting average.

How DMP uses this

DMP references hard hit rate when evaluating hitter quality and expected batting outcomes for props.

Common mistake

Treating batting average as more meaningful than hard hit rate -- a .240 hitter with 50% hard hit rate is unlucky, not bad.
