Hook

A half-point on a spread or total. "Getting the hook" means having a line at X.5 instead of a whole number, which eliminates the possibility of a push.

Like getting an extra minute on a timed test — it seems small but can be the difference between finishing and not.

Why it matters

The hook is often the difference between a win and a push. In football, the hook on 3 (getting 3.5 vs. 3) is enormously valuable.

How DMP uses this

DMP's line tracking shows whether you're getting the hook relative to the consensus. A half-point difference can significantly change P(over).

Common mistake

Ignoring the hook when comparing lines across books — the difference between 3 and 3.5 in NFL is worth more than 10 cents of juice.
