Market Maker
A sportsbook or trader that creates the initial lines and prices for a betting market, setting the benchmark others follow.
Like the first store in town to set gas prices -- everyone else adjusts based on their number.
Why it matters
Market makers determine opening prices. Understanding who moves first tells you where the sharpest information lives.
How DMP uses this
DMP tracks which books originate lines vs. which copy, weighting sharp originators more heavily in consensus calculations.
Common mistake
Confusing line copiers with market makers -- most books copy Pinnacle or Circa rather than setting their own prices.
