Opening Line
The first line posted by a sportsbook for a given market. Opening lines are set with less information and are typically where the most value exists.
Like being first at a garage sale: the best items are available before everyone else picks through them.
Why it matters
Sharp bettors target opening lines because they're less efficient than closing lines. Beating the opener is one of the strongest indicators of long-term skill.
How DMP uses this
DMP tracks line movements from open to close, helping you see how lines shift and whether early or late entry is more valuable for specific markets.
Common mistake
Waiting for the line to "settle" before betting — by the time a line settles, the sharpest value has often already been taken.
