Player Efficiency Rating (PER)
A per-minute rating that summarizes a player's statistical accomplishments into a single number. League average is 15.0, with elite players above 25.
Like a restaurant's overall Yelp rating — a useful summary but it hides important details about food, service, and ambiance.
Why it matters
PER helps quickly gauge a player's overall impact level, useful for understanding how much production might shift when a high-PER player is injured.
How DMP uses this
DMP uses PER-adjacent metrics in archetype classification and impact tier assignment, which determines how much teammate projections are adjusted when a player is out.
Common mistake
Treating PER as a complete player evaluation — it overvalues volume scoring and doesn't account for defense, so it's best used alongside other metrics.
