Quality Start

When a starting pitcher completes at least six innings while allowing three or fewer earned runs.

Like getting a B+ on a test -- solid and reliable, but not necessarily outstanding.

Why it matters

Quality starts indicate pitcher durability and effectiveness. They correlate with lower opponent scoring environments.

How DMP uses this

DMP uses quality start probability to evaluate game environments and how they affect opposing hitter props.

Common mistake

Thinking a quality start means the pitcher was dominant -- 6 IP and 3 ER is good but not great.
