Rebound Rate (REB%)

The percentage of available rebounds a player grabs while on the floor. Separated into offensive (OREB%) and defensive (DREB%) rebound rates.

Like measuring a fisherman's skill by catch rate (fish per hour), not total fish — the size of the lake and competition matter.

Why it matters

Rebound rate predicts rebounds better than raw totals because it accounts for opportunity — a player on a high-rebound team has more competition for boards.

How DMP uses this

DMP uses rebound rate in projection models to estimate how a player's rebounding translates across different game environments and opponent rebounding tendencies.

Common mistake

Projecting raw rebound totals without considering the opponent's rebound rate or the game's expected pace and total missed shots.
