True Shooting Percentage (TS%)

An efficiency metric that accounts for the value of three-pointers and free throws, not just field goals. Formula: points / (2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)).

Like measuring a delivery driver's efficiency by packages delivered per mile, not just per trip — it accounts for the different "values" of each delivery.

Why it matters

It's the most complete single measure of scoring efficiency — a player who shoots 45% but takes threes and gets to the line can be more efficient than one shooting 50% on twos.

How DMP uses this

DMP factors true shooting into archetype classification, helping identify efficient scorers whose prop lines may be set too low relative to their shot quality.

Common mistake

Using raw field goal percentage to evaluate efficiency — it treats all shots equally when a three-pointer is worth 50% more than a two.
