wOBA
Weighted On-Base Average -- an advanced hitting metric that weights each offensive event by its actual run value, including singles, doubles, home runs, and walks.
Like measuring employee value by total revenue generated, not just hours worked.
Why it matters
wOBA is the most accurate single number for hitting quality because it properly values extra-base hits and walks.
How DMP uses this
DMP uses wOBA-based metrics to evaluate hitter quality more precisely than batting average or OPS.
Common mistake
Using batting average instead of wOBA -- a .280 hitter who only singles is far less valuable than a .260 hitter who walks and homers.
