Think of it this way
Like finding a $200 item at a garage sale for $50. You're getting more than you're paying for.

The Garage Sale Analogy
You're at a garage sale. Someone is selling a vintage baseball card for $50.
You know this card sells for $200 on eBay.
That's value. You're paying $50 for something worth $200.
Value in Betting
Same concept:
If a sportsbook offers +200 (33% implied) on something you believe happens 45% of the time...
You're getting 33% odds on a 45% chance. That's value.
The Value Formula
Value = Your Edge - The Vig
If your edge beats the vig, you have +EV.
Example:
- Line: +150 (40% implied)
- You believe: 48% true probability
- Your edge: 48% - 40% = 8%
That 8% edge, minus the vig, is your profit margin.
Where Value Comes From
- Injury news you caught early
- Lineup changes the market missed
- Archetypes the models don't understand
- Books mispricing less popular props
What Value Is NOT
- Betting on your favorite team (bias)
- Betting because odds "feel" good (no math)
