How to Devig Odds Manually

The vig (or juice) is the sportsbook's margin built into every line. To find true probabilities, you need to remove it. This process is called "devigging."

Why Devig?

Sportsbooks don't show you fair odds. A -110/-110 line implies 52.4% probability on each side—but that adds up to 104.8%, not 100%.

The extra 4.8% is the vig. Removing it reveals the true implied probability.

The Manual Process

Step 1: Convert to Implied Probability

For American odds:

• Negative odds: |odds| / (|odds| + 100)
• Positive odds: 100 / (odds + 100)

Example: -110 = 110 / (110 + 100) = 52.38%

Step 2: Sum the Probabilities

Add both sides:

• Over -110 = 52.38%
• Under -110 = 52.38%
• Total = 104.76%

Step 3: Normalize to 100%

Divide each probability by the total:

• True Over prob = 52.38 / 104.76 = 50%
• True Under prob = 52.38 / 104.76 = 50%

Step 4: Convert Back to Odds (Optional)

True 50% probability = +100 fair odds
